MRH Featured at NASSP Conference
Maplewood Richmond Heights High School was one of only 18 high-performing middle level and high schools selected to present at the Ignite ‘16 School Showcase as part of National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Annual Conference February 25-27, 2016 in Orlando, FL. NASSP and the Center for Secondary School Redesign (CSSR) annually host this national showcase that convenes school leaders, teachers, and students from the nation’s top middle and high schools to discuss effective practices, programs, and strategies with colleagues from across the country.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is the leading organization of and national voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and all school leaders from across the United States and more than 36 countries around the world. The association connects and engages school leaders through advocacy, research, education, and student programs. NASSP advocates on behalf of all school leaders to ensure the success of each student and strengthens school leadership practices through the design and delivery of high quality professional learning experiences.
“The Ignite ’16 School Showcase uniquely connects principals, teacher leaders, and students with exemplary colleagues across the nation to discuss effective practices,” said NASSP Executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti. “That connectedness is essential to school leadership in the 21st century, and we know the Showcase expanded the professional learning communities of many of the educators in attendance.”
Schools are chosen to present on the basis of their outstanding reputations for quality and innovative practices with challenging populations. At the Showcase, they shared stories of implementing those practices, many of which are aligned with NASSP’s Breaking Ranks framework for school improvement.
“The schools presenting at this year’s Showcase are truly inspirational,” said CSSR President Joe DiMartino. “As they share their stories of implementing the Breaking Ranks framework, participants became energized about the possibilities.”
