Highlighting 8th Grade Olympics Expedition
On Friday, eighth graders ventured to Tillis park to participate in MRH middle school’s very own special version of the Olympics. As part of their current Social Studies unit, students are studying the demographic profiles of different countries, including aspects such as government, population, climate, resources, main import and exports, major religions, and landmarks. Students were divided into teams based on countries, where they were tasked with presenting information in an informative and engaging way to their classmates. The countries that were represented today included Bolivia, Botswana, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jordan, Kiribati, Liechtenstein, and Sri Lanka.
In preparation of the opening ceremonies, teams created a replica of their country’s flag, which was carried in the Parade of Nations, a team uniform, and an entry march. Countries competed in fencing, discus, water relay, tower-building, puzzle-off, and cooperative learning/team games.
