New MRH Board Member Sworn In
Thursday night was a learning experience for attorney Brandie Herndon-MIller, who formally took the oath of office as the seventh member of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District Board of Directors.
Board president Katie Kaufmann administered the oath.
After volunteering to attend several district events in the coming months and weighing in on other board business, one of Herndon-Miller's first official actions was to adjourn the board from open to executive session, with a little prompting from fellow board member Maria Langston.
On July 20, Herndon-Miller was selected from a group of five applicants for the director's job previously held by Ray Crader, who stepped down from the board after mounting a successful bid for the Maplewood City Council.
Herndon-Miller is a family and criminal law attorney and lifelong resident of Richmond Heights. She has children starting in the 5th grade in the district next week. She is a graduate of Mary Institute/ Country Day School and holds a law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The MRH school board comprises seven members who are elected for three-year, staggered terms.
