The MRH/Gatesworth Partnership Fluorishes
The MRH Board of Education and elementary school principal Dr. Jason Adams took time Thursday night to honor a longtime community partner.
Residents of the Gatesworth Senior Living Center have gone above and beyond to support the work of MRHE. In 2016, with the support of Character Plus, the residents of the Gatesworth hosted a fundraiser to support our efforts at MRHE. The funds raised ($20,000.00) as part of this effort have supported staff development in many of our school climate and educational equity initiatives. These include staff development through Character Plus focused on character education, restorative practices, and soon trauma informed care. The funds have also contributed to the re-design of our community garden, "The Living Exhibit" and books for the MRHE Library.
In addition, throughout the year residents of Gatesworth volunteer at MRHE through three different programs. The first is the Buddy Program, which involves matching volunteers up with students and reading and working on math facts together. The Book Markers program invites residents of the Gatesworth to work in our library, organizing and checking out books. The third program is the Blooming Bloomers program, which involves residents working in our garden to weed the raised beds, water the produce and flowers, and support us in the development of this space.
We truly appreciate the partnership with the Gatesworth and Character Plus. Their commitment to MRHE is making a difference and we are a better learning community for it. Thank you!
