Students Formally Present Green Ribbon Schools Award to MRH Board
The members of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School Board proudly accepted a prestigious green schools award Thursday night from three middle school students who were instrumental in making the achievement happen.
And, it came with a culinary surprise.
The U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools Award, announced earlier this year, recognizes districts taking a comprehensive approach to greening. That approach at MRH Middle incorporates improved environmental and health impacts into the daily curriculum. The Department of Education cited MRH Middle for:
- Reducing environmental impact and costs;
- Improving the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff;
- Providing environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.
Realizing that this honor would not be possible without the tremendous support of the MRH Board of Education, students Jacob Cummings, Danielle Stewart, and Olivia Armstrong presented the award to board president Katie Kaufman. Then, each board member was presented with a jar of honey produced by bees in hives maintained on the MRH campus.
