MRH Soccer Men Fall Just Short of Capturing Second Division Crown
The Maplewood Richmond Heights Blue Devils soccer team can look back with pride on a 16-8-1 season, following Saturday's narrow loss to the Brentwood Eagles.
In a game played beneath bouts of chilly drizzle and warm sunshine at Metro STEM in St. Louis, both teams kept fans on the edges of their seats with back-and-forth drives which resulted in no score at the midway point. Then just a little over two minutes after halftime, #9 Zachary Barton lined up directly in front of the net and kicked what would be the Blue Devils' only goal of the morning.
Less than 90 seconds later, Brentwood answered with a goal of their own. At the end of regulation, the game entered sudden-death overtime. That's when Brentwood scored, almost eight minutes into the OT period.
Brentwood, 9-15 on the season, advances to play Saxony Lutheran on October 28 in Cape Girardeau.
The MRH Blue Devils had been the division 2 champs following their stellar 2016 season.
