MRH Student Rewarded for "Doing the Right Thing"
Maplewood Richmond Heights 1st grader Reece Little was the smallest in stature of 11 recipients to receive the "Do the Right Things" award this month, but was recognized with a huge honor. The non-profit organization sifts through hundreds of youth applicants each month throughout the St. Louis area and chooses a select few to receive the honor. The recognition ceremony took place at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois.
On December 17, 2017, Reece was instrumental in saving his grandmother's life. He reacted quickly when his grandmother had trouble breathing by dialling 911 and opening the door when paramedics arrived. Reece in addition, also had the intelligence to call his mother and great-grandmother to keep them informed until they were able to get to the scene.
"The incident brings a tear to my eye to know my grandson came through for me," said Reece's grandmother.
The mission of the organization tis to work in partnership with area law enforcement agencies, schools, media and businesses to recognize and promote the positive social behaviors of school-aged youth in the region.
