MRH Students and Staff Do Some Heavy Lifting in the Name of... Heavy Lifting
As workout facilities go, the old weight room on the west side of the MRH High School/Middle School campus never garnered rave reviews. But that's changing, thanks to the combined efforts of the Booster Club, students, and district administrators.
Early this year, the Booster Club kicked off a community fundraising effort to purchase new exercise equipment and upgrade the building. An astonishing $25,000 was raised in a matter of months. The vast majority of the money -- $22,000 -- went toward the purchase of equipment. The rest goes toward room improvements.
This week, with help from the Show Me Weights company in Fenton, MO., five teachers and four students gutted the old equipment in preparation for the new. High school principal Dr. Kevin Grawer says the next steps are budget approvals and electrical code upgrades. Otherwise, he thinks the workout space will be ready for use by the start of the new school year in mid August.
"Before you know it, the kids will be working out in a brand new facility," said Boosters leader David Barton.
"Thanks again to everyone for all your donations and support of this project so this dream could become a reality for our kids! MRH Community ROCKS!"
