MRH Introduces New Parents as Teachers Coordinators

The new school year will see two new Parents As Teachers educators for the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. Both individuals have a history with MRH and are committed to meeting the needs of our youngest families in their new roles.

Sara Patterson holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in education. Her certifications include special reading K-12 and Parents as Teachers model certification. She has 11 years experience teaching second and third grade and has been part of the MRH elementary teaching team for the past 4 years. Sara has a passion for urban education and teaching and learning in diverse environments. As a parent educator, Sara seeks to support and partner with families as they work to create rich early learning experiences in the home.

Colleen Hogan is a certified Parents as Teachers educator. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work with a concentration in children, youth and families from Washington University in St. Louis.  Before coming to MRH, she taught in a two-year-old classroom at University City Children's Center. Colleen lives in Maplewood with her husband and two young children.

Sara and Colleen officially begin their journey as PAT educators on Monday, July 16th. In their first two weeks, they will review caseloads and begin making contact with new and returning PAT families.  In order for everyone to have an opportunity to meet them, we have planned a PAT Open House for Thursday, August 16th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MRH Early Childhood Center.  Please feel free to attend the event with or without your children to meet Sara and Colleen.   Water play activities will be available for children along with light refreshments. Please feel free to arrive and depart as your schedule allows.

PAT Open Explorations/Group Connections will begin in September. The first event will take place on Saturday, September 15th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  More details will be forthcoming. Future group connections will take place on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Most group events will take place at the MRH Early Childhood Center; however, throughout the year there may be special events that occur at other venues.  Stay tuned for more details about the year's Calendar of Events.
