MRH High School Segment Debuts on George Lucas's "Edutopia"
Award-winning filmmaker George Lucas is the driving force behind a film project which took place in the hallways and classrooms of Maplewood Richmond Heights High School in September. And now, it has finally made its on-line debut on Edutopia.
Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars universe, launched his Educational Foundation in 1991, with a vision of "a new world of learning based on the compelling truth that improving education is the key to the survival of the human race. It's a world of creativity, inspiration, and ambition informed by evidence and experience."
The innovative approach to learning at MRH captured the Foundation's attention.
"When I asked how they came to be aware of us here in Maplewood," says Principal Dr. Kevin Grawer, "they said, 'oh, you've been on our radar for about six years.'"
The Edutopia film crew -- producer, multiple camera operators, audio and lighting technicians -- spent a full week interviewing students and teachers one-on-one, and documenting teaching methods in classrooms.
