Proposition E Timeline for Design and Construction

Less than a month after MRH voters overwhelmingly endorsed Proposition E at the polls, the District's architectural partner is offering up timelines for designing, contract bidding and construction at all three major MRH structures. What's more, the firm is assisting MRH with planning for the resumption of learning in August.

Proposition E, a no-levy-increase bond issue, involves the sale of $30 million in bonds to pay for sweeping space additions and security upgrades district-wide. It passed on June 2 with a decisive 82% of yes votes. The high school/middle school complex, occupying a building nine decades old, gets the lion's share of the improvements... including more than a dozen new classrooms, a larger cafeteria, an additional gymnasium, and reconfigured offices. Other buildings will see improvements to grounds, HVAC, and entryways.

Ittner Architects of St. Louis presented its timeline to the Board of Education at its June 18 monthly meeting. The timelines are broken down among the Early Childhood Center, Elementary School, and HS/MS.

ECC & Elementary:

From now through the end of the year, Ittner will work on schematic designs, coordinating utilities, and developing construction documents. Next winter and spring will mark the beginning of bidding, permitting, and awarding of contracts. Expected completion dates, while tentative, are slated for October of 2021.

The design and contract timelines are similar to ECC and Elementary, but because of the larger scope of the HS/MS renovations, expected completion dates are in the winter of 2022.

Meantime, Ittner is working with MRH on immediate concerns involving the continuation of school following the summer break. The District's Buildings & Grounds department is working closely with Ittner associates on how best to reconfigure classrooms in the event that on-site learning is possible when school resumes in late August. The teams are conducting space measurements to maximize occupancy while also observing the necessary social distancing rules.
