Coming School Year Brings Changes Around ECC
In keeping with needs identified by the District’s Long-Range Facilities task force, you’ll be noticing significant changes around the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District in the coming months.
For one, MRH will be creating extra learning space at the Early Childhood Center by purchasing and erecting a modular “cottage.” This modern, well-appointed structure will be located on the northwestern edge of the ECC grounds just steps away from the main building. MRH believes this custom-built space will best suit the needs of the rapidly-growing preschool program, Discover Club after-care, and other programming at ECC. The installation of the cottage replaces an earlier plan to convert a District-owned building at 2812 Laclede Station Road. That plan was abandoned due to inspection and licensing delays. (MRH will retain the Laclede Station Road structure for needed storage space.)
Across the street, you will soon see “for sale” signs in the yards at 2811 and 2813 Burgess Avenue. MRH will be returning those two home properties to the community by listing them on the open real estate market very soon. The School District originally purchased those lots with an eye toward future expansion, but it has become clear that those two properties alone can not provide the necessary space for the increasingly expanding ECC student population. The Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education believes the sale of the Burgess Avenue properties is a fiscally prudent course of action and will benefit the community, as well.
