What do you say to children to explain twin pandemics of racism and COVID-19?
Join Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training (an MRH partner) for an August 19 webinar that will address the impact of our current reality on children, while providing resources and positive tools to open conversations with children of all ages.
The webinar panel brings together the expertise of experienced educators committed to equipping parents, caregivers, and educators with the skills needed to have age appropriate conversations that help kids understand and confront the harm racism does.
Each of these educators advocates approaching conversations about racial justice and injustice through the Antibias Antiracist (ABAR) Education framework. The panel discussion will provide resources and an overview of ABAR to help children make sense of current events and to ease the fear and powerlessness they may be feeling. The panel will be hosted by trained educators and current program coordinators from Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism and Springfield Coalition on Dismantling Racism, Joy Bailey and Kelly Hurst respectively. Joining them will be Mary Pat Martin, a partner of Crossroads Antiracism for more than 20 years with expertise in Antibias Antiracist Education and Crossroads elder, Anne Stewart longtime Crossroads trainer and counselor with extensive experience with ABAR, education, and mentoring folks of all ages.
The panel discussion will last 60 minutes, with a 30-minute Q&A section to follow. The webinar is priced at $35, with a sliding scale to provide equitable access.
