MRH Sophomore Selected for Prestigious Jazz Ensemble
Maplewood Richmond Heights 10th-grader Sadie Tanner has been selected as one of only two jazz vocalists for the JazzU ensemble sponsored by Jazz St. Louis (Jazz at the Bistro). More than one hundred students from area high schools auditioned for these spots.
The students will meet weekly to work in ensembles on technique and improvisation, performing in concerts throughout the year at Jazz at the Bistro. Students not only get the benefit of working with JazzU faculty, but also the opportunity to meet and work with musicians participating in the Jazz St. Louis Artist Residency Program. Due to the pandemic, Sadie and her musician colleagues will begin the year with virtual instruction. They will alternate between meeting in instrument-specific groups, and in seminars, discussing topics such as music theory and jazz history.
Sadie is just one of many accomplished musicians in her family, Her mother is also a teacher at MRH Middle School.
