MRH Cross Country Team Wraps Up Unique but Fun Season
Thanks to Cross Country coaches Ryan Rzeszutko and Joe Spinks for an awesome season. The Maplewood Richmond Heights team traveled to McNair Park in St. Charles this morning. Runner David Marino will be heading to state! Please enjoy this brief letter from Coach Rzeszutko as well as these photos of what the student-athletes described as a unique but enjoyable competition.
"This year was full of challenges, but Coach Spinks and I could not be more proud of our XC team. Despite everything going on, these kids put in a ton of work over the summer and fall to improve themselves. We have such a genuinely nice and hard-working group of kids, and they were incredibly supportive of one another and respectful of all safety protocol.
MRH got bumped up to Class 3 this year, and was placed into the fastest District competition I have ever seen. Normally, a boys' time of 19:00 qualifies for State. This year, it took a 17:55! Major congratulations to David Marino, who ran a 17:47 and qualified as the first Class 3 State runner in MRH history! Our boys team finished 5th overall, behind Lutheran St. Charles, John Burroughs, Priory, and MICDS. We finished ranked 24th in the state out of 77 teams in Class 3.
Mason Scargall, Micah Grawer, Jacob Cummings, Andrew Robinson, Blake Morris, Jonah Grawer, Katherine Barron, Sadie Tanner, and Tegan Daw all ran terrific races too. Thanks for all of your support this season!"
