MRH Middle School: Where Expedition and Adventure Meet
For the last decade, MRH Middle School has sponsored an Adventure Club. And the pandemic won't be changing that.
Adventure Club comprises, well, adventurous students who enjoy creating and going on excursions, both real and virtual, throughout the year. Despite the remote learning situation this year, MRH Middle School decided to go ahead with a new Adventure Club for 2020-2021.
Club sponsor and science teacher Bill Henske says, "If you would like to be a member of Adventure Club, you will need to submit your application to the right location. Because Adventure Club is only open to people seeking adventure, this process will require you to be adventurous. This task may challenge your brain. Feel free to reach out if you need assistance or a hint. If it were just about filling out a form, well, that wouldn't be adventurous. Use this link and have fun!"
That link takes students to a virtual classroom filled with "easter eggs" -- embedded links -- which branch out into various challenges.
Students at MRH Middle School are immersed both inside and outside the classroom in a variety of experiences through the metaphor, “School as Expedition.” Learning expeditions are in-depth studies of a topic that engage students through authentic projects, real-life studies, fieldwork, and/or service.
