LGBTQIA+ Support Resolution Adopted by MRH Board

The MRH Board of Education made quick work of adopting a proposed LGBTQIA+ support resolution. Members at the March 16 meeting stated that adopting such a resolution is an important step toward creating a more inclusive and equitable society as well as ensuring compliance with anti-discrimination laws, demonstrating leadership in the community for equality and social justice and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ students and staff.

The draft resolution was initially presented for review as a first reading, but the agenda was amended on a motion by Director Katie Kaufmann to add it to the action items; it was subsequently approved on a unanimous vote. Ms. Kaufmann underscored the urgency behind adopting the language, given the pace of action by some state legislators to curtail LGBTQIA+ rights.
