Smith Named Chamber Educator of the Year

Veteran MRH teacher Chris Smith was among a dozen individuals from throughout the community honored on September 14 during the Mid County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership & Awards Breakfast. Smith, who teaches communications arts at MRH Middle School, received the award for Educator of the Year.

He joined the Middle School family in 2019. Chris holds a Bachelor's degree from Greenville College as well as a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from William Woods University. He spent eleven years teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade at MRH Elementary, where he took on many leadership roles. Throughout his tenure, Chris has led his grade-level data team multiple years, mentored new teachers, and co-led the K-6 Writing Curriculum Action Team. He also facilitated Homework Lab after school and developed the MRH Book Battle Club. In 2017, Chris was honored as MRH Elementary Teacher of the Year due to his leadership roles and high student achievement. Outside of school, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife, Abby, and their two children, Olive and Elliott. In his spare time, he likes to build things and run ultra-marathons.
