MRH Senior Selected for Cancer Research Program
MRH senior Dakota Colbert was selected to be a part of a student research program through Washington University and Siteman Cancer Center. Dakota tells her story:
“I earned a spot in Washington University’s Cancer Research Inspiring Future Scientists Program (CRISPr) for research to be done at the Siteman Cancer Research Center in conjunction with the regional research curriculum organization, Science Coach. I competed for one of three spots from a field of dozens of local area high school students. The 10-week summer research internship came with a stipend and daily engagement of researchers. I worked in the Silva-Fisher laboratory that studies a new class of small RNA molecules that have shown to be uniquely expressed in different types of cancer.
These pictures show the presentation of my research at the symposium that was held at the end of the summer. My presentation was titled "Detecting m6A modifications on long-non coding RNAs in multiple myeloma.
I'm thankful for Washington University, Science Coach, and especially my science teachers (Mr. Ganey and Dr. Welker) at MRH for their support and dedication to teaching.”
