MRH Speech and Debate competed in the largest tournament of the fall semester at events hosted by Clayton and Ladue High Schools. Over 30 schools and 500 students participated in the two-day tournaments. 

In varsity competition hosted by Clayton, debaters Maia Truemper and Vera Pantazis won first place in the Championship Debate Division defeating Rockbridge High School of Columbia. Rising stars Martin Colvin and Jane Bolen won first place in the Open Division beating Jefferson City High School. 

Jo Kaplan continued a winning streak in Speech, capturing a championship in Storytelling. Speakers Odessa Javier (Oratory) and Vera Pantazis (Informative Speaking) also reached the top six; the pair also finished in the final six in Duo Dramatic Interpretation. 

In the novice debate tournament for first-year competitors, Jojo Dick and Beatrice Schmidt placed third, bowing out in the semifinals to Parkway West. Speakers Dizzy Funk, Mavis Rauls, Lucy Schmidt, Jojo Dick, Beatrice Schmidt, Zazie Kaplan, and Sara Kolar received awards for reaching the top-six final round.
