MRH Senior Receives Top Honor from Special School District

MRH senior Samantha Miller has been named a 2025 recipient of the Special School District’s Rosemary Zander Award. Since 1988, deserving students have been recognized for this award due to their accomplishments in academics, arts, athletics, communications, vocational training, employment, independent living skills, community service, and extracurricular activities. Recipients are chosen by a panel of SSD judges who review and score the many nominations submitted each year, pouring over the heartfelt and thoughtful words of SSD staff who clearly think the world of their students.

Samantha’s nomination letter was submitted by SSD teacher Angela Schroeder:

“Sammie is a force of positivity and determination, bringing warmth and enthusiasm to everything she does. Known for her kind and genuine nature, she has an incredible ability to connect with those around her, offering support and encouragement in big and small ways. Whether brightening someone’s morning with a thoughtful gesture or learning to navigate social boundaries respectfully, she continuously shows a deep understanding of what it means to be part of a community. Sammie’s ability to grow, adapt, and uplift others reflects her strength of character and willingness to learn.

Beyond her personal connections, Sammie has proven herself in competitive and professional environments. She is a state champion in e-sports, demonstrating exceptional strategic thinking and teamwork. Her experience in vocational programs working at Embassy Suites and running the Blue Devil Brew coffee cart has allowed her to develop real-world skills that will serve her well in her next steps. Sammie’s energy, work ethic, and dedication to every opportunity she takes make her an inspiration and a valued leader in her school and community.”

Congratulations, Samantha!
