Javier Crowned State Champion; Corcoran, Boyle, and Pantazis Win Top Awards.

Four MRH Speech and Debate students traveled to the campus of Missouri State University to compete in the MSHSAA All-Class State Championships. 111 high schools competed in the tournament's events.

After two days of competition, Junior Odessa Javier was crowned State Champion in Original Oratory for a persuasive speech on the inequities in public school funding. Sophomore Vera Pantazis placed second in Informative Speaking with a speech on communication anxiety. Javier is the first State Champion in the MRH program's seven-year history.

Seniors Katy Corcoran and Nate Boyle completed a history-making career as a Policy Debate team, finishing 5th after dropping to Rockbridge High School in the quarterfinals.

The team's season ends in June when Sam Siemer, Jack Funke, Maia Truemper, and Corcoran compete at the National Speech and Debate Association National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa (State and Nationals use separate qualification tournaments).
