Building Employees of the Year Announced
Blue Devil staff members have spoken, and on February 13, their choices for Teachers and Support Staff of the Year were announced during surprise visits to classrooms and offices throughout the District. Each honoree received prizes including tickets to Cardinals baseball games and monetary awards from our partners at CommunityAmerica Credit Union. Employees at each of the District’s four buildings nominated and voted on award winners in two categories: Support Staff of the Year and Teacher of the Year.
At MRH Early Childhood Center, employees selected childcare worker David Spellman as Support Staff of the Year. David has more than three years at MRH. Teacher of the Year went to seven-year veteran Annie Rothenberg, a 1st-2nd grade looping teacher who also leads the MRH branch of the National Education Association.
The Teacher of the Year at MRH Elementary is math specialist Lisa Weaver, who was not in the building when the awards were announced, so co-workers quickly dialed her up on Facetime to break the good news. Lisa has taught at MRH for 18 years. Support Staff of the Year goes to Nazime Cekrezi, a custodian who recently was re-hired at the Elementary School following a battle with cancer, which she now says she is winning!
At MRH Middle School, another absent employee was named Support Staff of the Year. Kaysie Pullin has worked as a District custodian for five years. The MS Teacher of the Year is Michaela Jackson, a Special School District teacher who joined MRH in October of 2020.
In her 6th year at MRH, math instructor Bethany Nobbe is the High School Teacher of the Year. And the longest-tenured nominee, custodian Maurice Rushing, received the High School Support Staff of the Year. Maurice has served the students and staff MRH High for 28 years!
Finally, the District Central Office Support Staff of the Year is Kat Norton, with 20 years on the job. Kat is the administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Schools and has served under three superintendents.
Next up: MRH staff members will vote for All-District honors in the same two categories. Congratulations to all!
